Weaving circle with Numbulwar's Master Weavers

Join master weavers from the remote community of Numbulwar in South East Arnhem Land for two hands-on weaving circle workshops. Learn traditional techniques passed down through generations and about Maguj (pandanus) and Nanja (repurposed ghost nets) colected from our shores. Once a deadly threat to marine life, ghost nets are reclaimed by the artists and transformed into vessels of story and strength. As you weave, you're part of a living practice connecting people, place, and purpose. Sit with us, share stories, and take part in keeping Culture and Country strong

Weaving Masterclass with Master Weaver Regina Pilawuk Wilson

Participants will learn traditional weaving techniques using merrepen (sand palm), a plant harvested on Country by the Ngan’gikurrungurr people. The palm fronds are carefully collected and stripped into fine natural fibres, which are often naturally dyed using bush plants, roots and berries to create vibrant colours including yellow, red, black, orange, purple and pink. Regina will provide the pre-prepared and naturally dyed fibres for the workshop.
